FAQ

Where do the sessions take place?

The sessions can be online, or face to face.

Face to face sessions take place in a private clinical room based in Guildford (GU2 9JX) or alternatively within the surrey hills (GU5 9DN).

What is the cost of the sessions?

An initial consultation is free, for it is incredibly important to find a therapist that you connect and feel comfortable with.

The initial assessment would be £80 (as it takes over an hour to complete)

The following cost per session is £70 (50 minutes)

You would be under no obligation at any time to book further sessions.

What can I expect from the counselling and psychotherapy process?

The therapeutic relationship is unique. It is a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space, separate from anything or anyone in your life, where you are able to purely focus and reflect on yourself and your psychological needs. It is a gentle but powerful process of collaborative exploration, where your difficulties are identified, unravelled, sensitively made sense of and proactively managed in order for you to achieve your goals.

At a pace that is guided by you, I will be alongside you, with every step that you take. It may be that your needs are self-exploration, leading to a greater place of personal compassion and healing. Or gaining an understanding of your psychological struggles connected to your motivation, emotion and behaviour, and developing the necessary tools to make effective changes.

It always astounds me, that with the therapeutic foundation of compassion, psychoeducation, safety, validation, instilled belief and utilising the skills that you have learnt. You have the capacity to positively heal, reduce your suffering and transform your life.

What is the process from finding the right therapist to commencing therapy?

Research highlights the significance of the therapeutic relationship and its’ role in promoting healing. Therefore, it is paramount that you find someone who you connect with, that enables you to feel a sense of safety. Consequently, all prospective clients are offered a 20 minutes free consultation. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other a little, to see if I am the ‘right fit’ for you and for me to understand your difficulties and reasons for seeking therapy. If you wanted to proceed, we would then book an initial assessment, and the therapeutic process would then begin.

What happens in an assessment?

This is your opportunity to share with me your story. We will explore what has brought you to therapy, what your present struggles and difficulties are and where they originate from. Your needs and goals will be identified incorporating where you see yourself in the future and potential obstacles that are preventing you from achieving this. A therapeutic plan will then be collaboratively made together.

What type of therapy approach will be used when I see you?

As an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, I incorporate a variety of approaches in my therapy in order to offer a unique approach, tailored for you and your specific needs. These approaches incorporate CBT, humanistic counselling, CFT, Mindfulness, DBT and the psychodynamic philosophy. Please refer to the ‘Therapies’ page to gain a greater insight and understanding of them.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes, all sessions are confidential. The only time I would have to break confidentiality is if I believed you might be at risk to yourself or other people. Breaking confidentiality is very rare and would only happen after the person concerned had been informed.

How long does each therapy session take / How many sessions will I need?

Each therapy session lasts for 50 minutes. Ideally you would be seen on a weekly basis at the same time each week. I see clients on a short-term or long-term basis. However, the therapeutic process is unique to each individual, the nature of the difficulty that you are seeking therapy for, your goals and individual circumstances. Some individuals gain benefit with having only 6 sessions, while others choose to have long term therapy in excess of a year. These factors would be discussed during the initial consultation or your first appointment and will become clearer over time as the therapy progresses.

I would recommend commencing weekly therapy initially for 6 – 8 weeks, upon which your progress, needs and goals would be collaboratively reviewed.
